Brand hatch played host in the 1970s to The Race of Champions – and we were linked with Silhouette Series from The Classic and Modern Motorsport at the Brands Hatch Speedfest on June 8th with the grid full of WRDA Champions!
After quali, the Fastest WRDA Guest was Clive Haynsford,( another of Craig Attrads one-offs) and he was 7th , in Craigs Mazda RX8. Next fastest, was one of the regulars, Fabio LUFFARELLI (18th) in his Corrado. Keeping him company was Wayne Spiller (Twice & current WSSCC Champion) in 20th and actually giving his Class 3 Seat Leon, its 2025 race debut! Tyrone LUFFARELLI (2017 WSSCC Champion) was 21st with the family Mini Saloon. 22nd was Andrew Williams with Waynes RX8 (Class 2 . 23rd was new member Leigh Haslett in another RX8! Mike Cook 24th and Verity Banks was 25th (making it Five Class 2 WSSCC contenders all in a group!)
Race 1 – 15 minutes – Rolling Start
There was the usual separate grids for us and the Silhouettes, and although Clive Haynsford took the initial lead, Fabio was right with him, and late on made it pay, with Fabio finishing 13th & Clive 14th. In 16th Place was Wayne Spiller (*the first Championship Scorer) in his Class 3 Seat. 17th and Class 2 winner was Mike Cook (Now located in Lampeter ) Newcomer Leigh Haslett was 18th, Andrew Williams was 19th both in Maxda RX8 with Verity Banks 20th in a Renalt Clio. We lost Fabios son, Tyrone early on , him being the only Wrda retirement.
Race 2 - 15 minutes – Rolling Start
Racer 2 started with 20 cars( No sign of Clive Haynsford)
Fabio was well up amongst the Silhouettes (Most of which he knew) However Tyrone has the first retirement, but as the race wore on, he was joined by more and more of the Silhouettes! In the end Fabio finished 4th overall, narrowly missing out on a podium finish! The results show the winner was Colin Smith, 2nd was Reuben Taylor (he had raced with us at Pembrey) 5th behind Fabio was Keith White (2014/5 Wsscc Champion). Current Champion, Wayne Spiller won Class 3 and finshed 8th Overall. Class 2 winner this time was new boy, Leigh Haslett (Maxda RX8) ahead of Andrew Williams (also RX8) Mike Cook was 11th & Verity Banks 12th
